This week in squirrels… From Sun Jul 12th to Sat Jul 18th

Summary

  • Weekly Review
    • This time with Pomodoro to keep me on track. Looks like the whole week fits in a single pom.
    • The weekly note finalization and posting takes hours still, though.
  • Streams~
    • On Sunday, I found I am catching more randos, and it’s pretty cool!
    • Then I had a great morning stream Tuesday to help psyche myself up for news the next day.
    • Finally, I snuck in an overdue collab with a friend we have been wanting to do for a long time
  • Dinner with my besties <3
    • We all met up at A’s and had amazing small bites and got to catch up.
    • I hadn’t seen L in four months now, since before her wedding. It was overdue to see her.
  • Lunch with JT, trying to get back on the work
  • Wrote another Go web app for routines
    • I was using Grocy, but at this point, I might as well do my own, since it would lower my maintenance and operational needs for it
  • Refactored all my Go CI/CD using shared workflows
    • Again, the idea is to reduce operational burden
  • Started redoing my backup storage.
    • This was a Saturday Night idea, since I am trying to run down my tech debt. I didn’t get to finish it; that will be for Sunday.
    • The idea is to create a new mountpoint in my ZFS pool to store all my Restic backups with some different options and a chroot.
  • Health
    • The dizzies are back in force, but I still have managed to not be a vampire the first half of the week.
    • However, I am not responding after two rounds of chemo. I am still 70% cancer. The doctor says all my spinal tests are still coming back negative, so we have some options, mostly novel ones like taking an immunotherapy and then getting a CAR-T where they teach my T-cells to attack my B-cells. Then, probably a BMT, which is where I didn’t want to be.
    • We start as soon as my insurance is on top of it.
  • It’s been an exceptionally hard week emotionally.
    • It’s messy, bad news. I don’t respond to chemo. It lowers my odds on things a lot and puts me a lot closer to my own mortality.
    • Because of this, since I got the news, I have been extra busy at home, trying to keep myself sane.
  • Filling my car cost 20$ less than last time, at least. Thanks, gas prices.

Books

  • Carl’s Doomsday Scenario ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • This one is almost better than the first book IMO.
  • The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook ⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • The constant and confusing exposition and floods of numbers and names in this one made it significantly less fun, but overall, it still has some great beats
    • Some of the writing was a bit more fragmented in this one

Music

  • “Dreams Are Not Enough” by Telefon Tel Aviv
    • I dream of it often: a younger version of myself, standing at the bottom of the ocean; arms aloft, mouth agape, eyes glaring, not seeing, not breathing, still as stone in a watery fane.
  • ThouShaltNot
    • Now it is officially “ThouShaltNot” levels of times
  • White Zombie / Rob Zombie
    • I love to put the chronological discography of White & Rob and just lose myself to Spooky Man saying scary things sometimes. Since I got sour on Manson, I tend to enjoy Zombie more.
  • “Original Fire” by Meat Beat Manifesto
    • A favorite of mine
